Ron Kusse Wood
Fishing Lures

Limited Edition

All Ron Kusse wood lures are made in a time-honored
tradition of years past. When Ron was just a boy he helped his father make quality
wood fishing lures in his father's shop. He learned how to do this the old fashioned
way, one at a time, with quality. For more than 51 years now, Ron has been making
the finest of wood lures (only a few each year). Bass Baby, Bass King, and K Tango are under- water
lures. These lures are made of birch and maple. They are turned on the lath,
one at a time, the holes drilled for the hardware and then the lure bodies are soaked for
four days in a vat of special impregnation fluid to thoroughly seal them against
water. They are so thoroughly impregnated they sink to the bottom of the vat.
They are then wiped off and allowed to dry for five days at 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
They are hand-sanded with 600 sand paper and a base coat is applied and is then sanded
until a mirror finish is achieved. The unique hand finish design is applied with an
airbrush, five to seven coats, and then two coats of waterproof sealer is applied.
At this time the hardware, hooks, diving lips and eye hooks are installed in the existing
holes. Before a screw is screwed, the hole is filed with a waterproof epoxy for
permanence. All hardware with the exception of hooks is stainless steel or
zinc-plated brass. All lures have the Kusse logo stamped in to one of the metal
parts. The surface sputterer is made of basswood, a light tough wood that is best
suited for surface lures. It is hand-turned on the lath, holes drilled and
impregnated for only four hours, as longer impregnation would spoil the balance of this
floating lure. All are great fishing lures or collectibles.

The Surface Sputterer is Ron's favorite lure. It will result in more bass than any other
lure he knows of. Cast the lure out and let it sit there for up to a minute.
Then lift the rod tip sharply to move the lure 6-8 inches and the propeller will make a
sputter sound. Let the lure sit for 15-20 seconds and repeat the procedure.
Then you might just jiggle the lure so it only moves an inch or two and let it sit
again. Then with a medium retrieve, drag it along the surface for fifteen or twenty
feet, then repeat the procedure. The trick to this lure is patience. It will
be rewarded with great action. 2-7/8 inches long.

The K Tango is maybe the most unique of all lures.
Its unusual shape imparts an unusual action
and makes it irresistible to all game fish. This lure was first made about 1908 and
was in continuous production until about 1938, when it disappeared. This is one of
Ron's favorite lures. This lure has a lead shot buried deep inside the broad billed
nose to achieve the delicate balance that makes the action of this lure so effective.
This is a medium-deep running lure and will attract large fish out of deep
structure. 4 inches long.

The Bass King is a great lure that will run medium to deep.
It has an action that is sure to trigger strikes from any game fish in the area.
This lure may be worked either fast or slow. Ron's largest Walleye (shown above)
was taken on this lure, 12lbs., 6 oz. The diving lips are made of brass and bending
them too often will weaken them. 3 inches long.

The Bass Baby is a subsurface lure with great action. The
diving lips on this lure can be carefully bent with your fingers to change the
action. This should not be done more than a few times as the diving lips
are made of brass and bending them too often will weaken them. This lure has a very
erratic action. This lure has been proven effective on all North American game fish.
This is particularly effective on bass and trout. 3 1/4 inches long.

All lures approximately 1/4 to 3/8 oz. All lures
are nicely boxed with description on how they are made and instructions for use.
